Why five hotels
The travel web is saturated with lists of forty properties nobody has visited. We took the opposite decision: pick a very small number of hotels, stay in them repeatedly, and write about them at a level of detail that actually changes a booking decision — which floor, which elevation, which room number, what the breakfast queue looks like at 09:00 in July.
Athens made sense because it is a city of two halves that most guides treat as one. The historic centre and the Athens Riviera are 25 kilometres and a different climate apart, and the choice between them determines the shape of a trip more than the choice of brand does.
How we research
- We pay. Every stay described on this site was booked at a publicly available rate and paid for by Aegean Lane Media Ltd. We do not accept hosted stays, comped meals or press trips.
- We stay more than once. Each property is visited in at least two different seasons, because an Athens hotel in February and the same hotel in August are not the same business.
- We check the rooms we do not sleep in. Housekeeping and front-office staff will usually show vacant categories on request. We ask, and we photograph the sightlines.
- We re-verify twice a year. Facilities close, restaurants change concept, renovations begin. Every review carries a verification date; ours currently reads January 2026.
- We publish the drawbacks. Every review has a "worth knowing" list. If it does not, we have not finished reporting.
Affiliate disclosure
This site currently earns no commission on hotel bookings. Outbound links to hotel websites are plain links, chosen because they lead to the operator's own booking channel — which is almost always the best route for room requests, loyalty recognition and cancellation flexibility. If we introduce affiliate arrangements in future, they will be disclosed clearly on the page where they appear, and they will never determine whether a hotel is included, how it is ranked, or what we write about it.
Corrections
We correct errors of fact quickly and visibly. If you find something wrong — a rate that has moved, a restaurant that has closed, a facility we have mis-described — write to [email protected] with the page and the detail. Substantive corrections are noted at the foot of the affected article with the date of amendment.
Reader questions
The Athens desk answers reader questions free of charge and without any commercial relationship to the hotels. Typical questions: which room number to request, whether a transfer is worth pre-booking, how accessible a property really is, whether September is warm enough to swim. Use the contact form; we reply within two working days.
Images and rights
Photography on this site is a mixture of our own images and licensed stock used illustratively. Stock imagery is not presented as a literal depiction of a specific room or restaurant unless captioned as such. Hotel names, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used here for identification and editorial commentary only.
