Cookie Policy

Effective 1 January 2026. This page lists every cookie and browser storage entry associated with curiouslanebrowsng.lifestyle, what each one does, how long it lasts, and exactly how to refuse or remove it.

1. Scope

This Cookie Policy is issued by Aegean Lane Media Ltd., Company No. 14872306, 42 Voukourestiou Street, Kolonaki, Athens 106 71, Greece, publisher of curiouslanebrowsng.lifestyle ("the Site"). It supplements our Privacy Policy and forms part of our Terms of Service.

It covers cookies and equivalent technologies — localStorage, sessionStorage, pixels and embedded frames — because Greek Law 3471/2006 implementing the EU ePrivacy Directive, read with the GDPR, treats all of them the same way: anything that is not strictly necessary requires your prior consent.

2. What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and send back on later requests. Local storage works similarly but stays on your device until it is cleared and is never automatically transmitted. We use local storage rather than a cookie to remember your consent choice, because it keeps the record on your machine instead of sending it back to our server with every page request.

3. Our position: a deliberately low-tracking site

We do not run advertising networks. We do not operate retargeting or conversion pixels. We do not sell or share data for cross-context behavioural advertising. We set no first-party tracking cookie of our own. What we do set is a single consent record, plus — only with your permission — two optional preference flags and an anonymised page-count.

4. Categories we use

  • Strictly necessary. Required for security, integrity and to remember that you have answered the consent banner. Loaded without consent, as permitted by law. Cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics (optional). Aggregated, IP-truncated page statistics so we know which hotel reviews and journal guides are read. Loaded only if you allow them.
  • Functional (optional). Remembers small conveniences such as currency display and whether you dismissed the newsletter prompt. Loaded only if you allow them.
  • Advertising / targeting. None. We do not use this category at all.

5. Full inventory

The following items are set by this domain:

NameTypeCategoryPurposeLifetime
cookieConsentlocalStorageStrictly necessaryRecords that you have responded to the banner, so it is not shown againUntil cleared
cookieConsentChoicelocalStorageStrictly necessaryStores which button you chose: accepted-all, rejected-non-essential or customUntil cleared
cookieConsentPrefslocalStorageStrictly necessaryStores your per-category switches as a small JSON objectUntil cleared
cookieConsentDatelocalStorageStrictly necessaryTimestamps the consent so we can re-ask after 12 months, as regulators expectUntil cleared
cl_currencylocalStorageFunctional (consent)Remembers whether rates are shown in euro or a converted display currency12 months
cl_prompt_dismissedlocalStorageFunctional (consent)Stops the quarterly-letter prompt reappearing on every page6 months
_cl_statsCookie, first-partyAnalytics (consent)Distinguishes a returning visit from a new one for aggregate counts; contains no identifier that we can resolve to a person14 months

If you reject non-essential storage, only the four consent keys are written. Nothing else in this table is created.

6. Third-party content that may set cookies

Some parts of the Site are delivered by other companies. Their cookies are governed by their own policies, which we cannot vary.

ProviderWhere it appearsWhat it receivesConsent basis
Google FontsEvery page — typeface filesYour IP address and user-agent as part of the HTTP font request; no cookie is set by the font endpointStrictly necessary for presentation
Google MapsContact page — embedded map frameIP address, user-agent, referring page; may set Google cookies inside the frameLoads on page view; the map is the only embed of its kind on the Site
Image content delivery networkPhotography across the SiteIP address and user-agent with each image requestStrictly necessary for delivery
Privacy-oriented analytics providerAll pages, if enabledTruncated IP, page path, referrer, screen bandConsent — Analytics category
Email delivery providerQuarterly letter, if subscribedOpen and click events attributable to your addressConsent — newsletter opt-in

If you prefer not to load the map, simply do not visit the Contact page — the same postal address, email addresses and office hours are published in text on that page and in the footer of every page, so you lose no information.

7. How to give, change or withdraw consent

  • At the banner. Choose Accept All, Reject Non-Essential, or open Preferences to switch Analytics and Functional independently, then Save Preferences.
  • Later. Clear site data for this domain in your browser and reload the page; the banner reappears and you can choose again. In most browsers this is Settings → Privacy → Cookies and site data → See all site data → search for our domain → Remove.
  • Automatically. We re-present the banner twelve months after the date stored in cookieConsentDate, so silence is never treated as permanent consent.

Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it and has no effect on your ability to read the Site. Nothing is gated behind acceptance.

8. Browser-level controls

You can also block or delete storage without touching our banner. Every major browser offers per-site controls, an option to block third-party cookies, and a private-browsing mode that discards storage when the window closes:

Blocking all storage will not break the Site, with one small consequence: because the consent record itself cannot be written, the banner will appear on every visit.

9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We honour the Global Privacy Control signal (Sec-GPC: 1) as a valid opt-out of all non-essential storage, and we treat a legacy DNT: 1 header the same way. If your browser sends either signal, optional categories stay off unless you explicitly enable them in the Preferences panel afterwards.

10. Children

The Site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly set non-essential storage on a device we believe belongs to a child under 15, the age of digital consent in Greece.

11. Changes to this policy

If we add, remove or change a provider, we will update the inventory tables above and revise the effective date. Where a change would place new non-essential storage on your device, we will re-present the consent banner rather than rely on a previous choice.

12. Questions

Cookie and storage questions go to [email protected], or by post to the Data Protection Officer, Aegean Lane Media Ltd., 42 Voukourestiou Street, Kolonaki, Athens 106 71, Greece. You may also complain to the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, Kifissias 1-3, 115 23 Athens — dpa.gr — though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
